German immigrant farmers and field workers would join together for social activities here. Duckpin bowling became quite popular. The lanes for the bowling alley still exist today, but are now used as a dance floor. Other popular activities at the social club were billiards and card games, especially the card game called “skat” which is still played today, at what is now known as the New Braunfels Elks Lodge.
