D/W43. First Protestant Church (1875)

296 South Seguin Avenue

The founders of New Braunfels held their first church service the first day they arrived to their new home—Good Friday, March 21, 1845. A year later the settlers built a log church on the same site. In 1875, this church of cut limestone from the Landa Quarry was erected near the 1846 site. In the History Room is a silver chalice that was presented to the congregation by Prince Carl at that first mass in the New World. The twin chalice is in the prince’s family castle in Braunfels, Germany.
